WELCOME to Turtle Cove!
We are so happy to have you stay with us and want to be sure you have a great time here.
PLEASE let us know WHILE YOU ARE HERE if there is anything we can do to make your visit more comfortable, if there is any problem or if you have any questions. It breaks our hearts to find out afterwards, when it is too late to make your stay more enjoyable. (We live on-island and can generally be at the unit within 30-60 minutes if needed.)
You can find our favorite restaurants and recommended things to do as well as a list of our other accommodations (for when you return or for referring to friends!) on this web site.
You should find everything you need in the unit to enjoy your vacation. Designated Parking Stall: 64
Check In: After 3pm Check Out: By 11am
If you want a later check out, please inquire well in advance as our cleaners’ schedules cannot accommodate last minute changes. Same day turnarounds prohibit late check outs. If you have a red-eye flight, you may want to reserve an extra night so you can shower and relax before you depart.
Check In at office:
It is requested that you fill out the emergency contact/parking form and either check in with the office or drop it in their dropbox within 24 hours of check in. They will track who is parked in your stall, so make sure that you check in to be sure the parking is reserved for you.
Door Lock:
Please note that the door will lock automatically when you close it UNLESS you turn the lock knob inside. This is designed so that if you are repeatedly walking in and out and don’t want it locking, you can turn the knob to stop it from doing so. IF YOU LEAVE IT ALONE, it will lock when you leave. If the door isn’t locking, try turning the lock knob and shut the door again. (I believe verticle is locked and horizontal is unlocked….but test it!)
Quiet Hours:
Please note this building is shared with others and awareness is appreciated. Before 8am and after 9pm, please aim to quiet down. Please be respectful of others.
Shopping carts:
There are shopping carts available for your convenience near the office for hauling your belongings and groceries up to the unit. Please return the carts when you are done with them. There is also a loading/unloading zone directly in front of office.
Trash:
There is a trash room/shoot just to the left of the elevator (if you are facing it) that you can put bags of trash in and it will go to the bottom floor. Please do not put anything outside of a bag in the shoot as it makes a huge mess. There is also a container for recycling in the trash room. There are larger bins on the bottom floor behind the office. There are extra trash bags in the trash can that you will discover when you pull the full trash bag out. In the event that they are not there, there should be a box of them on the bottom shelf of the pantry.
Recycling:
PLEASE RECYCLE Plastic bottles (they don’t recycle any plastic without a “neck”, bottles, cans, cardboard. Thank you. Recycling and trash bins are on bottom floor behind office.
Conservation:
We are on an island with limited (and therefore expensive) resources. Please turn off AC and lights when you aren’t home, close windows when using AC and conserve water.
Closest market:
We recommend you stop at the market on the way to the condo. Costco, Safeway and Whole Foods are all in Kahului, relatively close to the airport. There is a convenience store on the corner of the highway and Ma’aleaa Road at the gas station, and a limited supply of grocery items at the General Store in the harbor, but the closest grocery stores are either Times Market and Safeway in Kihei or Foodland in Wailuku. (all less than 10 min away)
Kitchen
Water: Water in Hawaii is safe to drink, however, it tastes better filtered. There is a Brita water filter in the fridge. Just fill with the tap water as needed.
Oven: The Toaster oven is a Ninja Foodie and it swivels up and out of the way when you are not using it. When you want to use it, you will just need to swivel it down. It is also an air fryer and the air-frying wire tray is in the cupboard. The directions for use are in this book, so please refer to them to assist you. One of it’s features is that it heats up super quickly—in a minute, so you do not need to turn it on until you are ready to use it. Be careful; it will be hot!
Stove: Please be sure to turn off burners when you are done using them and be careful not to use stove top as a counter top as the heat can melt plastic bags, etc.
BBQ: There are BBQs in the pool area that you are welcome to use. There are BBQ Utensils in a carrying case in the kitchen cupboard (tongs, skewers, spatula, etc).
Dishwasher: You are welcome to use the dishwasher, however we find it convenient to just wash the dishes and use the dishwasher as a drying rack. You may find it easier also when there are only two people or small amounts of dishes. There is dishwasher soap under the sink.
Water Alarm: There is a water alarm under the kitchen sink to alert you if the plumbing is leaking. If it goes off, please investigate for water leaks immediately and call us…808-280-5294. IF there is NOT a leak (even a wet towel wiping the floor can make it go off) there is a reset button on the alarm box under the sink.
PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE ANTS, OR OTHER INSECTS. The entire building gets quarterly treatments for pests, and we do our best to continuously manage them, as well. PLEASE HELP! The majority of the insects that come into the condo do so looking for food. The cleaner you keep the kitchen, the less likely they will be attracted to come in. THANK YOU!
Electric outlets: The outlets in the kitchen are Ground Fault and child proof—which makes it a little tough to plug things in. You need to be sure that the plug is situated properly (larger side aligning with larger opening in outlet) and you may have to wiggle plug a little as you push in hard.
Laundry:
The washer and dryer are the same unit and are located in the kitchen. PLEASE REMOVE SAND from clothes and towels prior to washing. Sand ruins washer/dryer and clogs the drains. (Letting your towels/bathing suits dry, and then shaking out the sand is far more effective than trying to shake out wet material. We prefer you use new towels than wash sandy ones.)
Having a washer and dryer in the same unit is not as efficient for drying so keep in mind there is a drying rack in the closet and you may find that putting your laundry on the rack on the lanai will dry more quickly. There is a water alarm under the sink in the event of a leak and the reset button is under the sink. PLEASE ALLOT plenty of time for drying (do not do laundry right before an event or flight!) PLEASE NOTE that the dryer door will lock and will not unlock until laundry cools down. It takes about 10-15 minutes. IT WILL UNLOCK….but plan accordingly time wise!
Please do not hang anything over lanai railing (against association rules).
Living Room:
Fan: The fan is on a remote control (White remote, usually located on coffee table or end table). In order for the remote to work the switch labeled “Fan” on the switch panel across from the kitchen needs to be on.
TV:
The Spectrum Remote operates the Spectrum Cable TV Box and is what you use to change channels and can also be used for volume. The “Guide” button will tell you the channel menu. It will also turn off and on the Spectrum box (it does not turn off the TV).
As a courtesy, Netflix is already programed with my password so if you enter as “evehogan” you can access Netflix. Any other streaming networks require your own log in credentials.
TV Console:
In the top drawer of the TV Console, there are a couple decks of cards, some brochures for local activities and some maps.
In the middle drawer are magazines related to Maui/Hawaii.
Books: In the cupboard to the right there is a selection of novels/books mostly left by previous guests, feel to take the one you choose to read, exchange for one you have completed, etc.
PLEASE LEAVE THE BOOKS ABOUT MAUI/HAWAII here for future guests.
The Entry Table in the hallway has some miscellaneous items that may come in handy: measuring tape, extra light bulbs, phone book, scotch tape, etc.
Sofa Bed: The couch is a sofa bed. Please just move coffee table and cushions to the side and pull out. There is a mattress pad on the mattress, spare sheets, pillows, comforter/blankets are in the bedroom closet or dresser.
Power Strip: There is a power strip on the ground on the window side of the couch for charging devices.
Air-conditioner: Feel free to use the air-conditioner if needed (but you may find having the door open, the fresh ocean breeze, and the fan is delightful!). The air-conditioner is located behind the chair on the right side of the lanai door. It turns on/off by pressing the “on-off” button on the front, center. PLEASE TURN IT OFF WHEN YOU LEAVE THE UNIT and PLEASE TURN IT OFF WHEN THE DOOR/WINDOWS ARE OPEN.
The light switch for the lanai light is located on the far left if you are facing sliding glass door on the wall.
Lanai:
Turtles: If you look carefully you can see the turtles swimming right up against the sea wall…very visible from lanai! If you need a “tutorial” on spotting them, I can send you a short video.
Whales: Between Dec. and April whales can be seen from the lanai. Usually their spout will be seen first. Often if you watch the boats, you will find the whales…as they are seeking them out.
Sunshade: There is a bar hanging down on the right side and turning it will lower and raise the sunshade. There should be bungees for attaching the bottom to the lanai rail.
Beach Chairs/toys: The bench on the right side of lanai has beach stuff in it…toys, masks/fins, etc and beach chairs. PLEASE REMOVE SAND BEFORE RETURNING THEM TO THE UNIT!
PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING ON THE LANAI without weighting it down. Please be careful with napkins, etc and do not leave towels or laundry on the lanai. PLEASE, do not climb on the banisters or lean on them. If you have children PLEASE MONITOR THEM for their safety.
This is a no-smoking building and that includes the lanai. Thank you for being respectful of this rule. There is a designated smoking area on the property.
Bedroom:
Light/Fan: THE LIGHT SWITCH INSIDE THE DOOR TURNS ON THE OUTLET BEHIND THE BED WHICH THE LAMPS AND POWER STRIP IS PLUGGED INTO. THIS MEANS THAT IF YOU ARE CHARGING YOUR PHONES ON THE POWER STRIP, YOU WILL WANT TO LEAVE THE WALL SWITCH ON AND TURN THE OVERHEAD LIGHT/FAN ON/OFF WITH THE WHITE REMOTE, AND THE TABLE LAMPS ON/OFF WITH THE SWITCHES ON THE LAMP. IF YOU TURN THE WALL SWITCH OFF IT WILL ALSO TURN OFF THE POWER STRIP (AND YOUR PHONE/DEVICE WILL NOT CHARGE.)
Air-conditioner. There is a mobile air conditioner in the bedroom. please don’t move it as it will pop the hose off. PLEASE TURN IT OFF WHEN YOU LEAVE THE UNIT and PLEASE TURN IT OFF WHEN THE DOOR/WINDOWS ARE OPEN.
Closet: The closets have a lot of amenities for you (iron, ironing board, baby stroller, boogie boards, rain poncho, clothes drying rack, etc). There are extra blankets, a set of sheets and a queen size comforter for the sofa bed, as well as extra pillows.
Window: The prevailing winds come from the front door/window side of the condo…so keep in mind as you open them, the wind can be strong! You will get a lovely flow of fresh air through the windows though! You may find the overhead fan easier to control than the wind!
Beach Towels: In the Basket, you will find beach towels. PLEASE GET AS MUCH SAND OUT OF TOWELS AS POSSIBLE BEFORE BRINGING BACK INTO CONDO!
